Family Law
When relationships are strained beyond repair, the effects can
be felt not only by those in the relationship, but also by
children, extended family, friends, and others. This
chaotic and stressful environment makes working through and
resolving issues of property division, child custody, and other
important issues even harder and more difficult.
A significant portion of our practice is devoted to family law
cases. We are able to answer questions and assist you with
issues associated with prenuptial and postnuptial agreements,
divorce, custody, adoptions, modification of orders,
enforcement of orders, and many other issues affecting today's
families.
Collaborative Divorce
Collaborative law is an innovative approach to
resolving disputes. It is currently emphasized in
resolving family issues, such as divorce and child custody.
Collaborative law is a form of dispute resolution which removes
the "win at all costs" approach from divorce.
In this process, parties and their attorneys
contractually agree at the outset to settle their disputes
without going to court. Spouses avoid the lengthy and
costly discovery and trial process by agreeing to disclose and
exchange all information required to make sensible and fair
decisions. Each spouse participates in the making of the
final agreement and signs to acknowledge his/her agreement when
it's complete. The result is a less emotionally
destructive, often less costly, and more dignified divorce for
more families.

collaborative divorce web page for more information
on this process, including the Texas statute regarding collaborative divorce.
